❄️ Chill Out Winter is a Fair Isle colorwork knit hat with a decorative Latvian braid at the brim, made for adventurous beginners to intermediate knitters ready to build real stranded colorwork skills or looking for a project with more texture and detail than a standard hat pattern.

✨ Features

  • Full written instructions plus charted colorwork
  • Separate charts for the hat body and crown decreases
  • Decorative Latvian braid detail at the brim
  • Video tutorial support for key techniques
  • Worked in the round, brim to crown

🧵 How It's Made

You'll start at the brim with a ribbed edge, then work a Latvian braid round that adds a twisted, textured band right where the hat meets the forehead. From there, the hat moves into the main event: 42 rounds of Fair Isle colorwork worked from a charted snowflake-style motif, with two colors trading off round after round. The crown finishes with a series of evenly spaced decrease rounds that taper the hat to a clean close, ready for an optional pom-pom or leather tag.

💖 Why You'll Love It

There's a rhythm to Fair Isle knitting that makes the rounds fly by, and this hat gives you plenty of it, with a motif that builds visibly as you work. The Latvian braid detail sets this apart from a standard colorwork beanie and adds a technique you'll want to use again.
