Sycamore Knit Ruana Pattern
The cardigan you didn't know you needed until now! Meet the Sycamore Knit Ruana pattern.
A knit wrap sweater built from four textured stitch panels, ribbing, lace, small twisted cables, and a big ribbed cable, in cozy worsted weight wool, finished with two patch pockets and a color-coded pattern that keeps every row easy to follow. Made for intermediate knitters ready for their first cables and lace, or any knitter who wants a texture-rich project without a full sweater's worth of shaping.
✨ Features
- Color-coded stitch panels so you always know where you are in the pattern
- Pocket linings that double as your gauge swatch, so no knitting goes to waste
- Two size options: a true one-size fit or a roomier larger size
- Adjustable length via a simple 16-row repeat
- Full video tutorial library for every technique used
- Folded, side-seamed construction with no set-in sleeves to fuss over
🧵 How It's Made
You'll start with the pocket linings, worked flat and set aside. From there, the Right Front is worked up from the ribbing through the lower body, and the pockets are joined into the upper body as you go. The Left Front mirrors the same steps. Once both fronts reach the full length, they're joined at the center back to form the back neck ribbing, and the piece continues down in one unit to the bottom back ribbing. After blocking, the piece is folded in half and seamed up the sides, leaving the upper portion open for armholes, and the pocket trims are added at the very end.
💖 Why You'll Love It
This is a project that keeps you engaged. The four stitch panels grow side by side in a satisfying rhythm, the color highlighting means you're never lost, and the finished ruana is genuinely wearable: toss it over jeans and a tee, layer it over a dress, or wrap up in it like a blanket on the couch.
📏 Sizing
Finished chest circumference is 64 (76)" [162 (193) cm] after blocking, with a folded length of 22 (30)" [56 (76) cm]. The smaller size works as a true one-size wrap that fits a wide range of bodies, while the larger size adds extra coverage, making this a lovely gift pattern when you're not 100% sure of someone's exact size. The pattern also includes guidance for mixing stitch count and row count if you're petite-and-larger-framed or tall-and-smaller-framed, plus a simple way to lengthen or shorten the body by a 16-row repeat.
